New Year, (Almost) New Life!

So I have been absent because I have had a lot of changes happen! I have moved out of my hometown and back to Kalamazoo, Michigan for a position with Western Michigan University! So a good but crazy start to my new year. Learning a lot of new things. I have been able to work more on my writing last year and hope to continue to do so this year. I will be working on more poetry and my novel “Fangirling, or Loving Someone Who Doesn’t Know You Exist”. So call this a resolution or a to-do list, but it’s my goal! Hope all is well with you all as well!

NANOWRIMO!

Hello Everyone! I just wanted to update you all. So I’ve been busy with work, applying for jobs, training for a half marathon, and writing. This year I’m taking part in NANOWRIMO and I’m working on my story Fangirling or Loving Someone Who Doesn’t Know You Exist. My goal is 25,000 words instead of 50,000 because of everything else I’m up to, and I don’t know if my story is going to be that long. So wish me luck and good luck to you if you are also participating in NANOWRIMO and if you would like more information you can go to nanowrimo.org!

YES, YOU CAN

A great pep talk for everyone!

Kacey Vanderkarr

Let’s be honest. It’s a rarity to find someone who LOVES work. It sucks. It’s hard. We’d rather be watching reruns of Vampire Diaries and eating ice cream than working. Lately I’ve been struck by how much people expect when they’re willing to give SO LITTLE, be it time, effort, money, thought.

Say it with me: Life does not owe me a hand out simply because I’m alive.

Welcome to my pep talk. It’s as much for you as it is for me, and it’s not going to be pretty.

I hate work as much as the next person. I hate the overwhelming dread that accompanies a big project. I hate setbacks and missed deadlines and that horrible feeling in your gut that you’ll never be DONE. We’ve all been there. We all want something, be it to write a novel, lose weight, save enough money to buy a house…

My Childhood Bucket List

So adorable!

Project Light to Life

A few days ago, my mom called me to tell me that while going through boxes of old stuff I had written, she found a list I had written when I was eight years old: “100 Things to Do Before I Die.” I was thrilled she found this list for several reasons: I had not known I was interested in or even knew about bucket lists that long ago, I have now accomplished several items on that list (for example, go to France and go bungee jumping), and some of the items are hilarious. I know a few of the goals on this list are difficult to read, so before I photos of this ancient bucket list, I’ll list a few of my favorites:

12. Stay online for at least seven hours. (If only I could tell my eight-year-old self I would accomplish this one many times.)

16. Go to…

Inspiring Lyrics: Bethany Dillon – Dreamer

Bethany Dillon’s song is a beautiful lyric lullaby for all of us who dream.

Here are the lyrics:

Love woke me up this morning
With a memory
Love came and whispered a story
That awakened a dream

Imagine a beautiful castle
And a beautiful king
He left the comfort of his throne
To fight for victory

I am a dreamer
Take me higher
Open the sky up
Start a fire
I believe
Even if it’s just a dream

Love woke me up this morning
And I ran to see
The king in the winners’ circle
On the horse he won for me

Only a king would do anything
To protect the kingdom
